Apollo
Bootprint on the Lunar Surface
A close-up view of an astronaut's bootprint pressed into the lunar soil, photographed by Buzz Aldrin during Apollo 11's historic moonwalk. NASA scientists used images like this one to study the mechanical properties of lunar regolith, since the Moon's fine, tightly packed soil behaves very differently from soil on Earth.
