Launch of Apollo 10

Apollo 10 lifts off from Pad 39B on the full dress rehearsal for the first crewed Moon landing, flying every phase of the mission except the actual touchdown. Astronauts Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan flew the Lunar Module, nicknamed Snoopy, to within about eight miles of the lunar surface before returning to dock with the Command Module, Charlie Brown — the ascent stage was deliberately underfueled so the crew could not attempt a landing even if tempted.
