Night Launch of STS-93

Space Shuttle Columbia lights up the night sky on STS-93, the mission that made Eileen Collins the first woman to command a Space Shuttle. The crew deployed the Chandra X-ray Observatory, one of NASA's flagship 'Great Observatories,' despite a fuel leak and an electrical short during ascent that nearly forced an emergency landing — problems the crew and mission control worked through without incident.
