Biography
The person behind the mission
Frederick H. Hauck was a U.S. Navy test pilot who flew three Space Shuttle missions, including STS-7 in 1983 alongside Sally Ride. In 1988, NASA selected Hauck to command STS-26, the mission tasked with returning the Shuttle to flight after the Challenger disaster, a role given to him in part because of his experience and steady reputation within the astronaut corps.
