The person behind the mission
Charles J. Precourt was a United States Air Force pilot and NASA astronaut who flew four Space Shuttle missions, three of which docked with the Russian space station Mir. As pilot of STS-71 in 1995, he took part in the first Shuttle-Mir docking, and he later commanded STS-84 and STS-91, the final two missions of the Shuttle-Mir program. Precourt later served as Chief of NASA's Astronaut Office.
