Biography
The person behind the mission
Edgar D. Mitchell was a United States Navy pilot and NASA astronaut who served as Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 14 in 1971, becoming the sixth person to walk on the Moon. During the return trip to Earth, Mitchell experienced what he later described as a profound feeling of interconnectedness while looking at Earth from space, an experience that led him to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences to study consciousness after leaving NASA.
